Gardens here
Riverside village, mix of older waterfront properties (some with mooring access) and characterful village core, with modern infill housing. Some salt exposure on the river side — worth a look at building for the salt cycle for how that changes a waterfront spec — with sheltered conditions further inland. Generally well-drained ground over the river terrace gravels that run down to the Hamble, the same bed as neighbouring Warsash and Locks Heath; more on it in soils across the Solent.
Working the area
Five to ten minutes from the studio. Regular work in the broader Bursledon / Lower Swanwick / Old Bursledon area.
Material decisions
Full studio palette. Waterfront-facing gardens benefit from some attention to coastal specification — vitrified porcelain over softer stone, marine-grade stainless, salt-tolerant planting on south-facing aspects.
In practice
The studio archive doesn't yet feature a Bursledon project, but the area is on the doorstep. Full hardscape, Warsash 2025 is fifteen minutes away by road, less if you happen to have a boat.
Discuss a Bursledon briefFrequently asked
Do you cover Bursledon?
Yes — five to ten minutes from the studio, with regular work across Bursledon, Lower Swanwick and Old Bursledon.
Is the ground here easy to build on?
Mostly. Bursledon sits on the same free-draining river terrace gravel as Warsash and Locks Heath, covered in soils across the Solent. Waterfront plots need a closer look at salt exposure rather than the ground itself.
Do you have a completed project in Bursledon?
Not yet, though the area is on the doorstep. Full hardscape, Warsash 2025 is fifteen minutes away by road and gives a fair read on studio approach for this stretch of the river.
