Structure

Brickwork that lasts longer than the house.

Brick is the original modular material. Run well, it ages slowly. Run badly, it tells the story of every shortcut taken.

What we do

We build retaining walls, low elevation walls, raised planters, header courses around hardscape inserts, brick edging and setts. Where the architecture is brick, we match the bond. Where it isn't, we choose a brick that earns its place against the rest of the build.

How we approach it

Tight courses, level beds, mortar matched to specification rather than mixed by eye. Weep-holes behind retaining walls because hydrostatic pressure is what eventually pushes brickwork over. Movement joints where the engineering requires them. Reclaimed brick where a build wants to read older than it is.

Brick tells the truth about how it was laid. Always.

Materials

Ibstock multi (warm red, traditional aspect). Staffordshire blue engineering brick (header courses, edges where contrast matters, applications where strength and water-resistance dominate). Reclaimed Hampshire stock for historic-fabric matching. Dense concrete blocks faced with brick where we're hiding structural mass behind a finished face.

In practice

See Bottom-of-garden patio, Fareham 2025 for Ibstock multi as patio-edge plus low retaining wall. Or Full hardscape, Warsash 2025 for a Staffordshire blue engineering brick header course framing an Astro turf insert within porcelain.
