A garden that earns its summers.
A Fareham home with a front garden gone patchy and a rear patio breaking up over old gravel and carpet underlay. Kandla Grey porcelain now runs from the pavement to the back fence, framed by matching porcelain setts and fresh lawns on both sides. Front and rear, finished as one job.
The brief.
A Fareham home where neither garden was doing its job. The rear patio had broken up over the years, its slabs sitting on bare gravel and old carpet underlay that should never have been a sub-base. Out front, the lawn had gone patchy and thin, the path was uneven, and the two spaces had nothing tying them together.
The brief was straightforward: a big new patio to entertain on, a lawn that would hold its colour, and a garden the owners could actually use rather than manage. Front and back, done properly, in one visit.
What we built.
The rear was stripped back to bare ground and rebuilt on a proper sub-base. Kandla Grey porcelain now runs the full width of the garden as a single patio, framed on every edge by matching Kandla Grey porcelain setts that box the new lawn in a clean, deliberate line.
Three inspection covers sat inside the working area, so we fitted recessed drainage trays at each one, cut and fitted with matching porcelain inserts so the covers read as part of the paving, not a patch on top of it. A narrow side path was relaid in the same porcelain, gravel-edged for drainage, so the material carries all the way round the house.
At the front, the old path and threadbare lawn gave way to a new porcelain pathway to the door and a freshly laid lawn, cut in with a clean edge against the gravel border. Two gardens, one material palette, one visit on site — and a garden built for using, not managing: barbecues, evenings outside, a lawn that doesn't ask for much.
