The brief.

A new-build plot in Warsash, with a brief that was unambiguous from the start: somewhere to host a gathering, somewhere the maintenance disappears. Two adults, busy lives, a garden that needed to work without asking.

The starting point was patchy developer's turf, a stamped concrete patio at the back doors, and gravel scrappy at the edges. Workable but unresolved — nothing tying the plot together.

What we built.

The whole rear was lifted. We laid lighter textured porcelain across the principal terrace as the everyday entertaining surface, with a secondary zone of darker large-format porcelain stepping back toward the rear of the plot. Two rooms, one material language, set apart by tone rather than by transition detail.

At the centre of the rear zone, a defined Astro turf insert, framed with a header course of solid blue engineering brick set flush into the porcelain. The brick frame is the detail that holds the composition together: somewhere green for the eye to land, formally treated, no upkeep required.

Polar ice decorative gravel runs the full perimeter, finishing every edge cleanly against wall and fence. The result is a garden that asks for nothing — no mowing, no watering, no seasonal maintenance worth mentioning — while still reading as a designed space rather than a paved one.
