No longer a danger zone.
A Fareham deck that had gone from tired to genuinely dangerous, replaced with a bright, subtle beige porcelain patio and matching steps down to the lower garden. New brickwork under the risers, a platinum-coloured grout to finish, and a garden that reads completely differently in the same footprint.
The brief.
A raised timber deck that had done its time. Slick with moss, boards gone soft in places, and the steps down to the lower garden worn enough to be a genuine trip hazard. It looked tired, and it wasn't safe.
The brief was straightforward: take the deck out completely, rebuild the level change properly, and bring some light into a garden that had gone dark under years of grey, weathered timber.
What we built.
The old decking came out entirely, down to the joists, and the raised platform was rebuilt in a bright but subtle beige porcelain, laid across the full width of the house. The steps down to the lower garden were rebuilt to match, faced in new brickwork under matching porcelain treads, so the level change now reads as one considered piece rather than a repair.
Every joint was finished in a platinum-coloured grout, cool enough to lift the beige tone without fighting it. What was a dark corner of the garden is now the brightest part of the plot, just from changing the paving and the steps.
No structural change, no bigger footprint. Just the same space rebuilt properly, and no longer a danger zone.
